Evaluating Speeches

After listening to Zach Wahls speech on same sex marriage, it is clear to see how he is good at holding an audiences attention. He does this by making eye contact and using appropriate hand gestures to emphasis his point. He also makes his point clear and memorable by connecting the topic form his audience, to himself. Zach states that he was raised by a gay couple, but then establishes a point that connects his family, and the government official’s family, by saying that their families are in fact quite similar. The speech was well structured and laid out, as he never goes off topic and makes his points clear and concise, which in this case is effective. Zach also played with the volume of his voice; this created another dynamic, along with the hand gestures that kept the audience interested in what he was saying.
